You’ve probably heard or possibly even seen the movies in the list but maybe its time you revisit these classic horror movies again. There is a reason these movies are considered classics in the genre and that’s because of their still powerful influence on the industry and the genre. Here is a list of three of the most influential and classic horror movies ever. Many people discount the horror genre as truly good film, but horror done right can be art worthy of being displayed on an easel.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Still considered one of the most terrifying movies ever made, “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” is still one of the most powerful horror films ever made because of its low-budget style and its scarily real performances by all the actors involved. “Massacre” gave hope to all the independent film makers out there that wanted to make a horror film on a small budget and possibly make some money off of it. The market for low budget horror movies grew by leaps and bounds after the surprise success of “Massacre.” You can’t call yourself a movie buff until you’ve seen the classic ending to this classic horror film.

Halloween

Possibly the most influencial horror film every made, “Halloween” was integral in setting into motion the slasher film genre and made the young Jamie Lee Curtis an in-demand star and popular “scream-queen” (one of the first). Not only did “Halloween” start the slasher genre but also started the glut of horror films based around holidays with the most notorious being “Silent Night, Deadly Night” a film that was widely boycotted for its depiction of a killer Santa Claus.

Night of the Living Dead

This influencial horror film wasn’t the first zombie film every made but the first to show zombies feasting on human flesh, which was a pretty horrible vision at the time, and still to this day. The scary thing about “Night of the Living Dead” an other zombie movies is that the monster, the creature, the thing to be feared could be that person you love the most, your father, mother or sister who has turned into a zombie. The ending of “Night of the Living Dead” is still influencial in horror films because of its nihilistic tone and “no one is safe” message.
